CONGRATULATIONS TO 2022 WINNERS PETER MOUNT AND GRAHAM BECKER
Picture
The 2022 Pioneer Cup event was a bit different from previous years even though we had a full field of players, very good weather and great golf course. There were concerns leading up to the weekend that the event might need to be cancelled due to the COVID 19 and fears of lockdown, movement restrictions and worse; an outbreak of the disease.
Many other organisations had cancelled their events and competitions because of those concerns. Our club believed we could proceed safely if we did everything we could to ensure the health and welfare of players and visitors by following the formal legal requirements and as many processes as possible to avoid contagion. Because golf doesn't require close contacts and the local course environment is conducive to good health the organiser's believed that so long as the social aspects were carefully arranged the likelihood of an outbreak could be greatly reduced.
Because of  the restrictions and concerns the club went to considerable lengths to keep everyone healthy and safe. That included among many other things, altering the seating and meal arrangements as well as ensuring the separation rules were followed.

The local Police made a number of inspections during the weekend and were satisfied with the arrangements and commended the club and players on their adherence to the requirements.
We were very pleased and relieved to hear that the only case of Covid was a volunteer who tested positive after the event but who had complied strictly to separation and mask wearing rules.

The weekends events started on Friday when a larger field than usual played for the Walpole Hardware and Farm Supplies Trophies. Then on Saturday and Sunday the full field played for the first prize of an Engel generator each and numerous and valuable minor prizes.  The weather held up and the course was in great condition and although quite dry had a nice green cover. The only surprise was that the resulting scores were not as high as in recent years.

Congratulations to all players; grateful thanks to our wonderful sponsors and our volunteers, especially those who got the course looking and playing so well and our fabulous catering personnel who were constantly serving all weekend.

Relief that it all went so well, gratitude that almost all players turned up and satisfaction that the virus was avoided. As our main revenue earner having a successful Pioneer cup means we can continue to improve our course and facilities this year.  Being a totally voluntary club we need that support so thankyou to all concerned.
We can look forward now to next years event

NEWS UPDATES ARE OUTLINED HERE.
ALL PIONEER CUP GOLFERS AND SUPPORTERS WHO ATTEND THE VENUE ARE ASKED TO KEEP AWARE OF THE LATEST COVID 19 DETAILS.  REQUIREMENTS CAN AND DO CHANGE REGULARLY.
We have a full field entered for the cup and are endeavoring to make it as good as ever. You are asked to help by complying with all the health requirements (including staying away if you are symptomatic) and any changes we are required to make. It is already clear that catering arrangements be a little different but we intend to provide you with all the same great food and refreshments.  We may also ask for your assistance as our volunteers will be busier than ever and some may need be absent. Hopefully with your understanding and help we can have a fabulous safe and healthy weekend.
On registration you will be given a numbered arm band which you are requested to wear for the weekend. This will enable smoother service, confirmation of your POV status and catering entitlements.

COVID 19 CURRENT SITUATION: AS AT 1/03/2022.
Latest Covid Directions issued and effective on and from 1st March apply to Walpole Country Club. The club is a hospitality venue under the rules for the Pioneer Cup event starting Friday. You would already be aware the rules require venues to limit each function room to a maximum of 150 seated patrons and for there to be 2 sq metre space for each person.

For the Saturday evening of the Pioneer Cup guest numbers are expected to exceed the 150 quota limits. Therefore the main club room will be limited to a maximum of 105 guests and remaining guests will be accommodated under cover and around the verandah. In previous years many have chosen to be outside so for those guests little will change.  As in 2021 the musicians will also be outside so those who wish to be outside and to enjoy the music will also experience little difference.

You are requested to choose where you would like to sit and if you wish to sit with friends you should make those arrangements and be seated early. To meet the 2 sq m rule tables will have limited seating. Hopefully for most you will be able to spend the evening in your preferred area. However if requested to be seated elsewhere we ask for your understanding, we have no choice. Please also listen for any required announcements at the time.

Guest are of course able to remove masks to eat and drink but masked to leave seating to obtain food and drinks and to use the conveniences.

Food service arrangements will change from past events with meals brought to the tables. Your table will be requested to assist the orderly distribution of the meal.

Bar and toilet arrangements will also change and details will be announced on arrival Saturday evening. Inside and outside will each have separate facilities.

We sincerely hope that there will be no COVID at all but these arrangements are designed to ensure that there is little mixing of the guests in the two parts of the venue to minimise any possibility of COVID 19 spread.

Our volunteers will be spread thinly for the duration of the event and especially on Saturday evening. Your cooperation and assistance will be gratefully received as well in dealing with the numerous COVID requirements . We have no choice but to comply with all the requirements or face the possibility of not having an event.

ALL PIONEER CUP GOLFERS AND SUPPORTERS ARE ASKED TO KEEP AWARE OF THE LATEST DETAILS AS REQUIREMENTS CAN AND DO CHANGE RAPIDLY.
